How to Beat the Midges? |
|
To avoid these bugs, it helps to know a little about them. They prefer the softer light of dawn and dusk, they like damp conditions, they like calm air. All this tends to mean that midges are less common in the middle of the day than in the mornings and evenings, that they are rarer on exposed hills than in sheltered valleys, and that they prefer woodland and forest areas.

Here are some helpful tips on keeping those bugs away:
• Stay away from wet, grassy areas.
• Wear light coloured long sleeve shirts and trousers.
• Wear a hat and a bandana on your head and neck.
• Avoid using fragrant or scented personal products. |
• Keep cool - bugs are attracted to sweat.
• Traditional bug repellent - most contain DEET or DMP as the active ingredient against bugs.(should not be used on children.)
• Sunscreen/insect repellent - this may have a lower concentration of DEET or DMP.
• Avon Skin So Soft - many insist that it works.
• Citronella candles and oil - helps keep midges out of the area.
• Head Nets - keeps bugs away from your head and face.
• Garlic - it will secrete through your pours.
• Coconut soap and coconut oil – has been know to repel midges.
